I open my studio annually during the Old Town Art Fair. We invite you to visit Saturday evening, from 5 PM, and Sunday, between 12 PM - 5 PM. 1758 N North Park Avenue, Chicago. Let us know if we might expect to see you.
The media I work with, represented in these paintings, includes ancient pigments, cochineal and murex, indigo, and pigments I’ve sourced on my travels, like Majorelle blue, mica, and Moroccan dye. The base of my work is watercolor. I work on heavy papers, mounting pieces to board with an archival process, and a UV protectant finish that renders them as durable as an oil painting. I have been painting flat, with a wet-on-wet technique I’ve developed over 30+ years in my Chicago studio and on residencies from Wyoming to Ojai, to The Loire Valley and the Indiana Dunes.
With support from the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chicago and a private foundation, in the summer of 2021 I started a dream project, inspired by one of my favorite public art installations in Paris, Monet’s Nympheas. For years, traveling to residencies from Ojai to the Loire Valley has been key in my development of new work. When travel was made impossible during Pandemic lockdown, I began to travel regularly to the Indiana Dunes, an hour’s drive from my home and studio, to immerse myself in the dynamic natural life of that place.
I. Enter the Fox is the first painting in this project, I’ve shown publicly, October - December, 2021 at ESME. I will continue to develop this painting project to create an immersive painting experience. This painting, 63” wide x 93” high is now on view in my studio and home gallery.
